When it comes to your recreational toys; motorcycles, fitness equipment, musical instruments, hot tubs, etc. Regular maintenance and care is required in order to get the most life out of it and bang for your buck!
In terms of your hot tub cover, this means cleaning and conditioning the vinyl at least once a month. That’s less often than watering the garden, but it means a better investment over time.
Vinyl, similar to leather, requires specific care. Avoid cleaners that contain alcohol, bleach, detergent, and dish soap. Abrasive cleaners break down the material and will only deteriorate it over time.
Start by loosening dirt and by watering down the cover with a garden hose. Let most of the water run off before applying a cleaner to a cloth or sponge to wipe the cover. Not only does cleaning prevent dirt build-up and deterioration but it also help against UV exposure.
If your hot tub is located outside underneath a tree you are likely to find sap on the cover. Any kind of oil in your kitchen will break it down and make it easier to clean. Be sure to not leave any oily residue behind.
The inside of your cover contains foam core and a vapor barrier, include inspection of these areas during your maintenance check. Make sure no mold or mildew has formed inside the zipper.
